While you’re enjoying our recipe for the Best Burgers here is the traditional side, prepared untraditionally, of course! Easy, quick and delicious oven fries that will compare to your favorite drive thru…yeah, we know you like those McD’s skinny slivers of death, but these are way better!
You will need:
1-2 baking (Russet or Sweet) potatoes (I cook for 2 people, so 1 potato is plenty. Hint: portion control is key to healthy living!)
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
Ground Black Pepper (optional)
Granulated or fresh chopped garlic (optional)
Scrub the potatoes in water. Slice, length-wise to preferred size. I leave the skin on and long slices are no thicker than your finger. Soak sliced potatoes in a bowl of salted water and put in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Soaking the potato keeps it crisp when you bake it.
When you’re ready to bake them, remove the potato slices from bowl and pat dry on a paper towel. Using a large, foil-covered cookie sheet (you know I’m all about easy clean up!) spread the potatoes onto the cookie sheet. Drizzle olive oil over and then salt and/or pepper (add garlic too if you’re into the whole vampire thing). Mix with hands and then arrange each potato strip on the cookie sheet so that they’re not overlapping. Bake (Convection if you have the option) at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven, flip and place back in oven for another 10-15 minutes.
Depending on how brown you like your “fries” you can bake for a while longer. If you’re using a convection oven, it typically takes less time and makes the potatoes even crispier (Crispy is a favorite texture at my house, so I tend to bake them for a total of 40 minutes).
Remove from oven and enjoy healthier French fries. Pass the ketchup!
